What is acupuncture?

Acupunture is a complex portion of ancient Chinese medicine, but its principles and methods are easy to understand: with acupuncture needs, the acupuncturist stimulates points along the course of meridians or energy channels. This stimulation helps to restore the normal balance and flow of chi or vital force so that organ and systems can work together in harmony. This will the create the opportunity for the body to repair itself and maintain health.

The main objectives of an acupuncture treatment are:

  1. relieve pain and other symptoms
  2. strengthen the immune system
  3. balance, harmonize and integrate functions of the organs with each other, making for a healthy person rather than a collection of fragmented disharmonious parts.

Typically acupuncture needs are fine and flexible, and are no bigger around than a human hair or a piece of thread. When the needles are inserted by a skilled acupuncturist, the slender needle produces little or no sensation at all. When the needle makes contact with Chi, or energy, most will experience a slight tingling sensation.

Many people know that the demands of modern life today leave us feeling stressed-out and anxious. It seems there is always more to be done with less time to do it! Too much stress may affect the balance of Chi in the body which can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, headaches, depression and other stress-related conditions. Periodic acupuncture can bring the Chi into balance and keep it that way. Stressful feelings are often replaced with a sense of well-being … something we all desire!

The Golden Door Spa at The Boulders offers skilled acupunture by a licensed acupuncturist. Choose from acupunture (50 or 80 minutes) acussage (50 or 80 minutes combining acupunture with massage) or needle & the stone (80 minutes combining acupunture with hot stone massage). Our acupuncturist is typically available Thursday-Sunday. To schedule your appointment, call 480-595-3500. We look forward to seeing you soon!
